I went to see The Curse of the Golden Flower with my wife today. We almost had the whole movie theater to ourselves, except for the elderly couple and the guy sitting alone at the back of the theater keeping score. All I can say about this movie is wow! The costumes and cinematography were truly amazing. The movie was set in the late Tang dynasty. The plot was a bit twisted and very Shakespearean. Zhang Yimou is a great director, his previous classics are Ju Dou and Raise the Red Lantern. Like most of the dramatic movies that come out of China this movie was very tragic, thus the Shakespeare comparison. If you are a big fan of fight scenes (though not overdone in this movie), plots that are not easy to predict and cleavage then you will love this movie.
